What is a Pingback?

Pingbacks happen when another blogger writes a post and includes a link to your post in their post. When they publish a post you’ll normally receive an email notification letting you know they have referenced (i.e. linked to) site your post. The email notification commonly includes an extract from the post they’ve written, a link to their post and a link to the post you had published. The most annoying thing about auto pingbacks is the fact that they can originate from your own website to your own website, in other words- your website is pingbacking itself whenever you publish a post. I really cannot fathom any value for this on the part of WordPress.

Now here is a video on how to eliminate pingbacks and trackbacks permanently.
